History &
Partnership
Tanaina is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, incorporated in 1979, founded by faculty members at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Their vision was to provide quality childcare services for faculty and students on campus, while providing a space for students of the Early Childhood program opportunities for hands-on learning experiences in the classroom.
In May 2015, after 35 years on the UAA campus, Tanaina’s partnership with UAA ended.
Tanaina changed its location to a temporary home at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church while seeking new opportunities. In August 2016, Tanaina formed a partnership with Alaska Regional Hospital and moved to a temporary location on the hospital campus, while building out a new space. One year later, in August 2017 Tanaina opened its doors and welcomed children and families from the Alaska Regional Hospital and the Anchorage community to their new home.
Tanaina is proud to partner with Alaska Regional Hospital, offering year-round care for children 12 months to 5 years of age.
